Can lithium iron phosphate batteries be charged without a protective plate?

With the development of new energy sources, lithium iron phosphate batteries are increasingly widely used in hybrid power systems. Lithium iron phosphate batteries have many advantages, such as high energy, wide operating temperature range, stable operating voltage and long storage life. However, lithium iron phosphate batteries also have some instability problems, such as fire, which may occur in a harsh environment. So, do lithium iron phosphate batteries need to be charged with protective plates? Today, we will take you to know about it.

What is lithium iron phosphate battery protection board? Lithium iron phosphate battery protection board, as its name implies, is used to protect lithium batteries. The purpose of lithium battery protection board is to avoid over-charging, over-discharge, over-current protection, short circuit and other problems, and some will install smart chips to record the use and status of batteries. Lithium iron phosphate battery protection board is the charge and discharge protection of series lithium battery packs. It detects the over voltage, under voltage, over current, short circuit and over-temperature status of individual batteries, and protects and prolongs the service life of batteries. If the battery is discharged, the protective plate will protect the battery from over-discharge and cause battery damage. This adds a protective barrier to lithium batteries, making lithium batteries safer and longer service life. If there is no protective plate, the battery life will not only be affected, but also dangerous situations will occur. Therefore, the protection board is very important for the safety protection of lithium iron phosphate batteries.

So far, however, no battery manufacturers have publicly declared that they do not use protective panels. The lithium battery protection board is charge-discharge protection for series lithium battery packs. When charged, the voltage difference between the individual batteries can be guaranteed to be less than the set value, and the charging effect under the series charging mode can be effectively improved. Main Functions of Protective Plate for Lithium Battery 1) Overcharge protection function
1) The overcharge protection function refers to the prohibition of charging by the charger when a certain voltage (hereinafter referred to as overcharge detection voltage) is reached. That is to say, the overcharged MOS tube will be controlled to turn off and stop charging.
2) The over-discharge protection function
The over-discharge protection function is to stop discharging to the load when the battery voltage becomes low. The MOS tube which controls the over-discharge is turned off and its discharge is forbidden. This process is just opposite to the action of overcharge detection.
3) The over-current protection function
The over-current protection is to stop discharging the load when high current is consumed. The purpose of this function is to protect the lithium battery pack and MOS tube and ensure the safety of the battery in the working state. After the overcurrent detection, the battery will return to normal after separation from the load, and can be recharged or discharged.
4) Short Circuit Protection Function

Control Strategy of LiFePO4 Battery Protection Board System
1. Working mode
The lithium iron phosphate battery protection board system operates in the static mode, charging mode and discharge mode according to the battery status. The lithium battery protection board system is powered by external power supply, and the start/stop of the system is controlled by external terminals.
2. Protection Measures
The protection board system of lithium iron phosphate battery has the following protective measures: overcharge of single voltage, overcharge of total voltage, over current, high temperature, low temperature, short circuit, etc. When the unit voltage or total voltage is overcharged, the charging MOSFET is turned off and the charging is stopped when the set protection threshold is exceeded. When the over current exceeds the protection threshold of 15A for 90s, turn off the charging MOSFET and stop charging. When the discharge current exceeds the protection threshold of 105A for 90 seconds, the MOSFET is turned off and the discharge is stopped. When the temperature of the battery is higher than 75 and lower than - 20 C, the charging and discharging MOSFET and the battery pack stop working. When the instantaneous high current (200A) occurs, the short circuit of the battery pack will turn off the charge and discharge MOSFET immediately, and the battery pack will stop working. The protection board is designed to protect lithium iron phosphate batteries from over-charging, over-discharge and short circuits. It is necessary for the protection board of lithium iron phosphate batteries to be useful. The circuit of the protection board can detect the voltage and current of each battery in series and control the charging and discharging process of the batteries.
